Amazon Ads opens a ChatGPT inventory pilot for US DSP buyers

Published · Updated 16 September 2026, 06:30 IST

Select US advertisers can now extend Amazon campaigns into ChatGPT. OpenAI still decides which ads serve. This is a pilot, not a self-serve author product.

Why it matters. Anyone already buying Amazon Ads just got a second surface — conversational ads under ChatGPT replies, labelled as sponsored.

On 10 September Amazon Ads announced a partnership with OpenAI so advertisers can expand existing Amazon campaigns into ChatGPT. Amazon’s own post says select US advertisers are in a pilot. Search Engine Land and Marketing Dive, citing Amazon, add that inventory is bought through Amazon DSP as a managed service on CPC or CPM, and that ads appear as labelled text or image units beneath ChatGPT responses. OpenAI’s system, not Amazon’s, decides delivery.

Delta Vacations is the named tester. This is not Sponsored Products inside the Kindle Store and it is not open to every KDP advertiser today. If you already run Amazon Ads, treat it as a watch item: the buying path is DSP, the serving path is OpenAI, and the creative will sit next to answers, not next to a book detail page. Do not move a whole book-ad budget here until Amazon publishes who can self-serve.
