KDP now allows only two new titles per format each week

Published · Updated 1 October 2026, 12:30 IST

From 21 September an account can create two new ebooks, two paperbacks, and two hardcovers a week. The counter resets Sunday at 00:00 UTC. Books already published are untouched.

Why it matters. A rapid-release week that used to fit under the old cap of ten per format will now stop at the third new ebook.

On 21 September the KDP Community posted “Update on KDP Title Creation Limits.” From that Monday, you can create up to two new titles per format per week. Ebook, paperback, and hardcover are counted separately, so two complete books — each in all three formats — still fit. The allowance resets every Sunday at 12:00 AM UTC. Amazon’s only stated reason is “to help maintain a positive publishing experience for all authors.” Existing or already published titles are not affected, and the post does not say that revising a live book spends the allowance.

ALLi’s Dan Holloway and Jane Friedman both put the previous cap at ten titles per format, a limit that had itself replaced an earlier 2023 restriction. That is an 80 percent cut, posted with almost no warning. If you had three new ebooks queued for one week, the third waits until the Sunday reset. The Atlantic’s 18 September report on “parasite” books still described the old ten-title cap. That number is no longer the rule.
